Dubai Ruler Greenlights Construction of World's Largest Airport Terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport

In a monumental move, Dubai's Ruler has given the green light for the construction of a groundbreaking new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of Dubai's aviation landscape.

The Dh128 billion terminal project, approved on Sunday, will see all operations of Dubai International Airport gradually transition to the new facility over the course of ten years. Spearheaded by the Dubai Aviation Corporation, construction will commence immediately on the expansive terminal, covering an impressive area of 70 square kilometers.

Upon completion, the terminal will boast five parallel runways and a staggering 400 aircraft gates, making it five times larger than the existing Dubai International Airport (DXB). Pioneering technologies never before seen in the aviation industry will be incorporated into the design and functionality of the new airport.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, underscored the significance of the project, proclaiming, "Al Maktoum International Airport will be the largest in the world with a final capacity of up to 260 million passengers."

Emphasizing Dubai's commitment to leading the global aviation sector for the next forty years, Sheikh Mohammed elaborated, "We are preparing for a new phase in the growth of the global aviation sector. We are preparing for a phase in which Dubai leads the international aviation sector for the next forty years."

The ambitious development plans extend beyond the airport terminal itself, with an entire airport city set to emerge in Dubai South. This visionary project is anticipated to stimulate demand for one million additional homes and attract the world's foremost logistics and aviation companies to this strategic location.

Sheikh Mohammed encapsulated the overarching vision behind the project, stating, "We are building a new project for generations, ensuring continuous and stable development for our children so that Dubai will be the world’s airport, port, urban metropolis, and new cultural centre."

As construction commences on this monumental endeavor, Dubai solidifies its position as a global leader in aviation and sets the stage for unparalleled growth and prosperity in the decades to come.
